In over 35 years of guiding, I can count less than a handful of times where I’ve had swallows land on a rod tip. When it does occur, it is often so fleeting that getting a photograph is near impossible, even if a camera is in your hand. On this occasion, our guest Peter was at the ready, and this bird stayed a while. Not only that, it attracted another for a double!
I believe this may be a northern rough winged swallow, a bird widely dispersed throughout Central America, the US and southern Canada. Swallows found this far north are migratory, spending their winters in the southern US and Mexico. Other swallows frequently found in the Fraser Valley are bank swallows, also known as sand martins, and tree swallows.

It is a pleasure to have spent 36 years guiding and running boats on this amazing waterway.
Come join us for a day of sturgeon or salmon fishing on the river, and experience all that the Fraser river has to offer!
Have fun, enjoy what we have today, and remember to get outdoors and enjoy some Nature!
We look forward to spending quality time in the boat with all of you soon!
Cheers from all of us at Cascade Fishing Adventures!
Cheers!
