Every so often we run into sturgeon with black spots on them. Some fish have a few patches, and some will be covered throughout. This is due to a parasitic fluke (Neacsus) that finds its way under a fish’s skin – the response of the fish is to attack the parasite, and in doing so creates the black spots from black pigmented melanin. There is no danger to humans via contact. The parasite can be found on many fish species. The cycle of the parasite involves fish eating birds passing eggs into the water (via feces) which hatch and infect snails; the fluke develops and eventually leave the snail for its new host, a fish.

It is a pleasure to have spent 36 years guiding and running boats on this amazing waterway.
Come join us for a day of sturgeon or salmon fishing on the river, and experience all that the Fraser river has to offer!
Have fun, enjoy what we have today, and remember to get outdoors and enjoy some Nature!
We look forward to spending quality time in the boat with all of you soon!
Cheers from all of us at Cascade Fishing Adventures!
Cheers!
