Today’s steelhead is brought to you by words that start with “S” – such as stubborn steelhead and possibly even scarce steelhead.
The Chilliwack/Vedder river is in ‘primo’ condition – great water levels with a nice tint of colour to the water make it look and fish, ideal.
Out on the prowl today produced three great whites (rocky mountain whitefish) and this single wild steelhead. I fished four or five Grade A steelhead spots and found this lonely doe in a junky little piece of pocket water – go figure. The Vedder does see some angling pressure, so you have to cover the water if you want to hook up. Today’s fish was caught by float or drift fishing a single egg.
March is right around the corner, and some of the best steelhead fishing is cueing up. I can hardly wait! Not to mention, it will be fly time!
