As we start to see the end of April, we can say that this was a pretty spotty month for sturgeon fishing. We had some great weather, and some not so great – like Friday the 24th! Despite the recent wild weather and crazy fishing, our guides still managed to find fish for Jeff’s returning group of 8 anglers over the weekend. These guys are fantastic guests and we sure have a great time with them on the boat! Colin M. brought the largest fish to the side of the boat with a 81″ x 35″ 190# sturgeon, while Cletus M was not far behind with a fish of the same length, but with a more slender build to weigh in at an estimated 160#. Also, a tip of the hat to Brett, CEJ, Rob and Clayton for a job well done!
As always at this time of year, Martyn makes his annual spring trip all the way from England. Martyn has been coming to Chilliwack to fish with us for 13 years, and this trip will be his 26th trip! Yes, you read that right – Martyn makes two trips every year. Such is the attraction of the Fraser river, the surrounding scenery, and the sturgeon themselves! While Martyn has had several close encounters with giant sturgeon, he is still waiting for that magic moment when he can tape a sturgeon in excess of 10 feet fork length! The best part is, even though Martyn is waiting for the giant, he loves each and every sturgeon he encounters no matter how big or small they are. Hopefully this could be the year that Martyn stretches the tape on a big one and can holler out “it’s 9 foot, 13 inches!”, or more!
This week has seen Atlee James of Potential Pictures filming our sturgeon fishery here on the Fraser river for Cascade Fishing Adventures. We are pretty excited to see how this all will turn out and we hope to capture the experience of the Fraser river sturgeon fishery. We will keep you posted.
